MSF250 Evaluation Platform
Printed Circuit Pack with the MSF250 Multi-Service Framer Device and Supporting Device Driver Software

The MSF250 Evaluation Platform is a standalone or rack mountable unit that supports operation and interoperability testing of the interfaces supported by the MSF250 Multi-Service Framer device. It includes the MSF250 Device Driver software necessary for the management and control of the MSF250 device as well as software to configure the other devices on the platform.

Description
Selecting devices for a new hardware project is a major commitment and R&D organizations need to assure themselves that their product design will fully meet market requirements. The MSF250 Evaluation Platform allows organizations to ensure that the MSF250 device will meet all of their requirements in a live system.

The MSF250 Evaluation Platform is a standalone or rack mountable unit that supports operation and interoperability testing of the interfaces supported by the MSF250 device. It includes the MSF250 Device Driver software necessary for the management and control of the MSF250 device as well as software to configure the other devices on the platform.

Optical Interfaces
The MSF250 Evaluation Platform has two optical line interfaces that can be end-user populated with optics for 155 Mbps or 622 Mbps line speeds. The MSF250 Evaluation Platform may be optionally ordered with optics for 2.5 Gbps line speeds.

Datacom Interfaces
The MSF250 Evaluation Platform contains 2 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces with optical interfaces as well as eight 10/100 Ethernet ports with RJ-45 connectors. The 10/100 Ethernet ports can be disabled and the MSF250 SPI-3 interface can be used, via a connector, to interface to customer-developed test hardware.

Telecom Interfaces
The MSF250 Evaluation Platform supports 28 DS1 or 21 E1 ports via high-density connectors, as well as 3 DS3/E3 ports. Testing equipment or customer-developed test hardware can access the MSF250 Telecom Bus via a connector on the board.

Processor Complex
The MSF250 Evaluation Platform contains a Motorola 8260 PowerQUICC II processor with 128 Mbytes of RAM and 32 Mbytes of ROM. The processor complex can load either the provided evaluation software image from ROM, or a customer developed software load via a management Ethernet port. The 8260 microprocessor controls the MSF250 and the associated PHY/LIU devices and also receives the SONET/SDH transport overhead serial streams.

System Synchronization
The MSF250 Evaluation Platform implements a complete synchronization solution that allows the system to free run with stratum-3E accuracy or to take system timing from either of the optical interfaces or an external synchronization interface.

Software
The MSF250 Evaluation Platform includes a complete set of sample applications demonstrating management of all interfaces with ITU/Telcordia/IETF-type management functions, including configuration, fault and performance management. The software also allows the easy configuration of bitstream paths through the MSF250 and supports 1+1 protection on the optical interfaces with sub-50 ms switchover times. During the course of an evaluation, Galazar Networks offers consulting services to extend, enhance and instrument this software as required.
