Please note: The MSF250 Evaluation Platform also supports the DSF15

DSF15DSF15 155Mbps Ethernet over SONET/SDH Device
155 Mbps Data Service Framer

The DSF15 is a highly integrated Data Service Framer device capable of mapping Ethernet traffic into OC-3/STM-1 SONET/SDH transport payloads. The DSF15 is equipped with 10/100 Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and maps frames into SONET/SDH lines at OC-3/STM-1. Ethernet over SONET/SDH (EoS) is supported through Virtual Concatenation (VC) with Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS), with simultaneous use of mixed High-Order (STS/VC paths) and Low-Order (VT/VC paths).

Interfaces

  • Equipment / client side:
    • Up to 8 Ethernet / Fast Ethernet via SMII
    • 1 Gigabit Ethernet via GMII
  • Line / trunk side:

Description

The DSF15 is a highly integrated device capable of mapping Datacom traffic into SONET/SDH transport payloads. On the line side, the DSF15 supports a single OC-3/STM-1 interface. On the client side, 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet interfaces are available.

The DSF15 maps up to 155 Mbps of traffic from a variety of client side Ethernet interfaces. Traffic destined for the SONET/SDH trunk from any client side interface can be assigned at VT/VC-12 and STS/VC-3 granularities. Any combination of VT1.5/VC-12, STS-1/VC-3 or STS-3c/VC-4 SPEs can be mapped to any legal position in the SONET/SDH payload.

The DSF15 performs all SONET/SDH section and line terminating functions including normal or enhanced framing, scrambling/descrambling, parity generation and monitoring, remote line error indication processing, section trace message generation and extraction, orderwire and user channel insertion and extraction. Serial insertion and extraction of all section and line data communication channels, and synchronization message insertion and extraction is also supported. The DSF15 also performs Line and Section error detection, signal degrade and failure detection based on provisionable bit error rate thresholds, and automatic protection switching information extraction and validation. Line status is consolidated and presented to software in a manner that facilitates rapid identification of faults.

The DSF15 supports full SONET/SDH pointer processing of any combination of STS-1/VC-3 and concatenated payloads up to 155 Mbps. Path overhead monitoring and path trace message generation and monitoring are provided.

Packet mapping, with static or dynamic bandwidth allocation, is supported for one Gigabit Ethernet GMII interface and up to eight 10/100 Mbps Ethernet SMII interfaces. Packets encapsulated using GFP, X.86 LAPS or RFC1662 PPP are mapped to a SONET/SDH transport payload. Backpressure on the Ethernet ports is implemented with IEEE 802.3x flow control with programmable trigger thresholds. The Ethernet interfaces provide all necessary counters to support SNMP and MIB-II implementations.

Virtual Concatenation (VC) with LCAS is supported on the Ethernet interfaces and provides 8 virtual concatenation groups (VCGs). A total of up to 3 high order member paths (STS-1/VC-3, STS-3c/VC-4) or up to 84/63 low order member paths (VT1.5/VC-12) is available across all VCGs. An internal buffer supports differential delay compensation of up to 4.6ms, while an external SDRAM interface is used to provide differential delay up to 250ms.

The DSF15 is a member of the SOLAR family of products. For more information, please consult the SOLAR Product Brief available from your Galazar Networks representative.
